SEDF highlights best prospects for SMEs

KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) felicitated Mehboobul Haq the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) on the development and launching of an E-Portal link which is a unique initiative taken by SEDF which will serve as common platform for investors and financial institutions.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver appreciated the initiative which will facilitate the entrepreneurs to submit their applications and simultaneously convey their request to the bank of their choice or to several banks as desired by the applicant. This facility will save the applicants from running from pillar to post and it is a positive step n ease of doing business.
Kapil Kumar the Company Secretary of SEDF appreciated the role of UNISAME in motivating the entrepreneurs and emphasized the need to untap the opportunities which exist in the poultry sector for day old chicks in Sindh which come all the way from Punjab and this could be hatched in the Sindh province, secondly the business of layers is also profitable and which could be also extended to broilers.
Several other businesses for SMEs are the silica extraction from rice husk, the portable cold storage, and the egg pasteurization, making of egg powder and medicines from egg shell which prevents ageing in human beings, the pasta manufacturing and making of cheese.
These and other such products in livestock, dairy, farming and poultry can avail finance up to Rs 200 million and if the project is for an innovative industry which can add value to the chain it can go beyond Rs 200 million depending on its merit of uniqueness.
Kapil explained the facilities provided for Balancing, Modernization and Replacement (BMR) for rice husking mills up to Rs 10million at 6.75% mark up where the 4.75% of the mark up is borne by SEDF. This facility is provided by SEDF to help the rice husking and processing units to achieve operational efficiency.
